Answer: Major Dhyan Chand was a famous hockey player of India. He made India famous on the world stage due to his unique style of play. He won many gold and silver medals at the international level in the field of sports.

        Major Dhyan Chand was born on August 29, 1905 in Allahabad to father Sameswar Dutt. Dhyan Chand's father and elder brother Roop Singh were also prominent hockey players. Thus Dhyan Chand inherited the game of hockey. His father served in the British Indian Army. Major Dhyan Chand enlisted in the army as a soldier at the age of sixteen. There he was persuaded to play hockey by Major Tewari, a governor. Dhyan Chand used to practice hockey with full dedication in the moonlight from evening till late night after doing army duty. He participated in army sports competitions from 1922 to 1926. Dhyan Chand's performance was highly praised in an annual sports competition held in Delhi. This praise lifted Dhyan Chand's spirits. He played his first international match in New Zealand on 13 May 1926.

            Once in the Netherlands, Dhyan Chand's hockey stick was broken and it was seen that this player did not put anything like a magnet in his stick. In fact, Dhyan Chand had great control over the ball. His ball was no different from his rock. In which India defeated USA 24-1. Out of these 24 goals, 8 goals were scored by Dhyan Chand alone After this embarrassing defeat of the United States, an American newspaper published that the Indian hockey team was a storm from the East. During these Olympic Games Indian team scored a total of 262 goals out of which 101 goals were scored by Dhyan Chand alone. After these games, Major Dhyan Chand became one of the top players in the world.
