Question 1. What is meant by Rashtriya Gana (Jan Gun Mann)?

Answer: O God, that is, O God! Thou art the Lord of the minds of innumerable people and Thou art also the maker of the destiny of India. Going beyond this, it is said that the people of our provinces Punjab, Sindh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Orissa, Bengal and Ravindra, our mountainous Vindhyachal Himalayas and the holy rivers Ganga, Yamuna and oceans rise from the oceans. The waves are chanting Thy (God) auspicious name. Praying to obtain Thine auspicious blessings and singing the praises of Thine own infinite virtues. You give comfort to all people. May you live forever. You are the creator of India's destiny and we sing the praises of Your Jai at all times.
